• Indigenous Human Rights in Ilam, Eastern Part of Nepal

The training programme benefited directly to 34 local indigenous peoples and 2 other non-indigenous youth on the issues of indigenous human rights. In the training basically the participants were taught about human rights based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. More than 16 treaties and convention signed and ratified by Nepalese government were discussed. Particularly the International Labour Organization Convention No.169 on the Rights of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples was extensively discussed. Notably the political rights under the Rights to Self-determination and the Rights of Self-Identity of Indigenous Peoples. In addition the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was also discussed. The programme was facilitated by Mr. Chandra Singh Kulung, Chairperson of Chulachuli UNESCO Club-Kathmandu and the management was done under the leadership of Mr. Bhim Thimra, President of Aadibasi Janajati Sasaktikarn Sanjal-Ilam as well as of Federation of Indigenous Kirat Associations (FIKA) - Ilam.
