• Right to information Demanded
Chandra Indigenous peopels from Ilam district demanded their right to information on a programme jointly lauched by Nepal Kirat Kulung Language and Cultural Development and Chulachuli UNESCO Club-Kathmandu on 29th December 2006.
More than 62 participants were gathered in the programme in which government officials and civil societies including the representatives of different indigenous peoples shared their views to establish the rights of indigenous nationalities.
Participants from 11 village development committees and one Ilam municipality were represented. Representative from Nepali Congress (Democratic) and Communist Party of Nepal - Maoist also shared their parties policies and programmes regarding the rights of indigenous peoples including the right to information. Comred Saru clearly expressed that everyone is concerned with state's power and that only protects the rights of every citizen so people needs to be clear on their working direction.
Many ethnic groups expressed that they should be aware of their language, culture, religion and their overall identity. One should not forget to their existence.
On the occasion Mr. Naryan Koirala, Planning Officer of District Development Committee of Ilam clearly expressed that the planning should be an inclusive and a reflection of the desires and interests of villagers in the context of democratic structure. The programme right to information of indigenous peoples organized in Ilam was an essential and it makes aware people about the programmes related to them by which they work ahead for their development. |
