Biodiversity and the cultural heritages of indigenous peoples when combined it becomes bio-cultural heritages that are interdependent and indispensable for indigenous peoples said Environmental Engineer, Mr. Yogesh Bahing on an interaction programme called 'Biodiversity and Indigenous Peoples' organized by Chulachuli UNESCO Club-Kathmandu on 30th September 2006 in Dillibazar, Kathmandu, Nepal. The scope of biodiversity was widely spreaded when an international Conference on Bio-Diversity (CBD) was held in 1992 in Reo de Zenerio and recognized that the traditional knowledge for maintaining ecological balance has been remained in indigenous peoples. The Conference on Bio-Diversity has also clearly stated in its Article 8(j)that the indigenous peoples must have share on the commercial and non-commercial values of utilizing biodiversity resources to alleviate their poverty and to uplift their quality of life. The resources may come from both tangible and intangible heritages in which UNESCO has also made a substantial contribution making aware to the world organizing international convention and declarations - he added. He also expressed that the natural catastrophy of Tsunami also could not affect to the indigenous peoples due to their traditional knowledge of predicting such storm prior to arriving in the indigenous areas was remained in them. The executive members, general members including other indigenous youths in total 25 were benefited by the programme. The programme was presidized and facilitated by the President of the Club, Mr. Chandra Kulung.
